I. Product Overview
The Triconex 4610 is an ABB press-pack fast recovery power diode, a core power semiconductor device for medium- and high-voltage high-power converter equipment. It adopts a fully press-pack disc package structure and is mainly used in ACS6000 medium-voltage drives, ARU active rectifier units, high-power inverters, and rectifier devices. It performs freewheeling and reverse blocking functions, and works with IGCT devices to complete power conversion. It is widely used in metallurgical rolling mills, large motor drives, and power converter equipment, and is a key power spare part for the maintenance and replacement of existing medium- and high-voltage drive systems.
II. Functional Features
The press-pack disc package structure provides double-sided heat dissipation, excellent heat dissipation performance, and can withstand high current conditions. It has excellent thermal cycling resistance and is suitable for long-term operation of high-power converter equipment.
Fast recovery characteristics, short reverse recovery time, and low switching losses make it suitable for the high-frequency switching conditions of medium- and high-voltage converters, reducing device heat generation and improving overall conversion efficiency.
High voltage and high current ratings, with high reverse blocking voltage, capable of withstanding system surge voltage, meeting the voltage stress requirements of medium-voltage drive equipment.
High-reliability sealed encapsulation ensures excellent device sealing, resistance to humidity and vibration, and suitability for industrial environments with large temperature differences and strong vibrations within high-power enclosures.
Optimized design for unbuffered operation, adaptable to unbuffered circuit topologies, reducing the number of external components and simplifying the converter hardware architecture.
Failure-safe short-circuit mode: Press-fit devices tend to fail via short circuits, facilitating fuse protection and reducing the risk of overall system failure.
Rigorous factory electrical testing: Each device undergoes comprehensive testing for withstand voltage, continuity, and recovery characteristics, ensuring batch consistency.

Operating Instructions
Installation and Assembly: The components are crimp-type; crimping installation must be completed using the specified pressure tooling. Pressure must strictly adhere to the manufacturer’s technical specifications; insufficient pressure will cause poor contact and overheating damage.
Cooling Configuration: Double-sided water-cooled or air-cooled heat sinks are used to ensure the component’s operating temperature is within the allowable range; contact surfaces must be flat and clean.
Wiring and Assembly: Gate and power terminals must be reliably connected according to the drawings, with torque conforming to standards to avoid loose connections and arcing.
Power-On Testing: After assembly, perform an insulation withstand voltage test first, then gradually increase the voltage for power-on; monitor component temperature and operating waveforms.
Maintenance and Replacement: When replacing damaged components, the flatness of the heat sink contact surface must be checked simultaneously. Spare parts should preferably be of the same model; direct substitution of diodes of different specifications is not permitted.
IV. Design and Structure
Press-Pack package, double-sided metal electrode heat dissipation, ceramic insulating shell, high overall mechanical strength, and resistance to shock and vibration.
Optimized internal chip layout enables rapid reverse recovery, reduces switching losses, and is compatible with IGCT converter topologies.
The ceramic insulating shell isolates the power electrodes, providing strong electrical insulation performance and meeting medium and high voltage insulation safety requirements.
The device body has no soldered leads; electrical and thermal contact is achieved through mechanical pressure at both ends, making it suitable for high-power, high-reliability industrial applications.
Standardized dimensions and unified mechanical mounting interfaces for devices in the same series facilitate standardized equipment design and spare parts replacement.
V. System Characteristics
Natively compatible with ABB ACS6000 medium-voltage drives and ARU active rectifier units, used in conjunction with IGCT power devices to achieve converter freewheeling functionality.
The components participate in system power conversion, providing reverse blocking and freewheeling protection, directly impacting the overall efficiency and reliability of the converter.
The double-sided heat dissipation architecture supports increased power density for high-power systems while reducing cabinet size.
Short-circuit failure mode facilitates fault protection via system fuses, preventing fault escalation.
Existing medium-voltage drive projects can be directly replaced without altering installation and crimping dimensions, requiring no changes to the cabinet structure.
Suitable for high-power industrial continuous operation, meeting the needs of 24/7 uninterrupted production equipment.
